About Pipedreams

Having left college qualified in food technology and bakery crafts, Sally developed a flair for cake decorating. This started as a hobby but an increasing demand resulted in the establishment of Pipedreams Cake Design in 1989.

The modest beginnings consisted of a small showroom and kitchen, but to cope with a growing number of orders, additional expertise and experience was required and larger premises!

The Pipedreams Team consists of:

Sarah looks after front of house. She will help you through our range of cakes, with suggestions on stands and decorations, calling on the Design Team for technical and artistic backup when needed.
The team leader is Margaret who heads up the showroom, she has been decorating cakes since she was a wee nipper, and has tonnes of experience under her belt to help you through your design choice. Her creative mind is always open to new ideas and if you have any suggestions of your own to enhance your design, she’s the lady to ask!
After taking a course in chocolate work, Sue realised she had found her niche and she is now in charge of the chocolate creations you see in our dedicated chocolate room.
The newest addition to the team is our apprentice Kristy; dedicated to baking all our delicious cakes, she is very enthusiastic and is acquiring new skills along the way as she assists with the decorating of our cakes, bringing a fresh approach to our designs.
Our Saturday girl is Alex; she has been with us since she was a toddler, well since she was 16 (it just seems like forever, we can’t seem to get rid of her and she is now in her twenties!!!). Alex knows everything there is to know about Pipedreams.
Finally, we must not forget Sally who is the owner and Queen of all cupcakes; she is responsible for all our handmade chocolate shoes, handbags, lollipops and Funky Pops. Sally helps out about the place and creates our wonderful window displays.

The Story of a Cake

The pictures below show the Fairy Tale cake as it was being constructed, with the final cake at the end of the process. Some call it "icing engineering", but we just think it's a great cake!
